Renovating the System
Do you ever feel stuck in the Matrix? I love those movies. They are a scarily accurate portrayal of world systems, their diabolical intentions, and the facades they hide behind. (Cheery intro, right?)
Anyway, whether you ride the conspiracy train or not, there are systems in every corner of your life–governmental, financial, economical, religious, familial, so on and so forth. Systems aren’t bad, in fact they’re necessary. In an ideal society we should be able to choose which systems we’re submitted to; however, that’s just not reality. So, what can we do about it?
In this vlog I briefly talk about a NEOS student who emailed me one of his frustrations: how can he build wealth for his family while being separated from the “world system”? [Quick Sunday School lesson: the world, or Babylonian, system is a Biblical reference to a governmental system not submitted to the Kingdom of Heaven and its ways. Most mainstream, Western churches are taught this worldly system is bad and Christians should stay away; they should be “in the world, but not of it”]…what does that even mean?
Unfortunately, the church as a whole has done a poor job rounding out their teachings; they’re quick to tell you what NOT to do, but leave you hanging on the high-wire, juggling flaming swords, with no safety net trying to walk the “straight and narrow”. Okay, maybe that’s a bit theatrical, I’m simply saying we all need more support and clearer understanding on what it means to live a pure and purposeful life in a system that’s set against us.
Personally, I don’t think we’re meant to exile ourselves from the system, or “The Matrix” [cue mysterious music], I think as “Christians” we’re meant to renovate it.
SO! Now that the stage is set, and possibly burning, I invite you to watch the rest of this blog…
