I wear a lot of hats…
Wife, mom of 4 little boys, CEO, entrepreneur, bookkeeper, marketing manager, grocery shopper, tax filer, food source, housekeeper, teacher, musician, friend, sister, daughter, etc. I’m certain you wear a lot of hats too, and maybe this over-burdened wardrobe makes you feel overwhelmed and constantly out of time? Yeah, me too. But take it from one over-dressed person to another, you’ve got this.
Days can feel like juggling acts, and sometimes we have to choose which balls we can afford to drop, but which ones will shatter, and which ones will bounce? Prioritizing is the only way to work efficiently through the wardrobe (of hats, that is). When you have hard deadlines, those balls will shatter if dropped, when you have more flexible tasks, those balls will bounce. The shatter vs bounce ratio isn’t an indicator of ball importance, simply of efficiency-priority. Some days our kids take priority, other days’ work deadlines do, what’s key for us is to release the guilt of choosing one ball over another. This is my struggle.
Now, in the DiSC profile I’m a CD and I’m also an enneagram 1/8/5–all this to say, I’m super task-driven bordering on perfectionist, so prioritizing balls is VERY difficult for me. They’re ALL important, in my mind they will ALL shatter. So, I’m learning about GRACE. Not just “unmerited favor” as the Amplified Bible defines grace, but the ability to release myself from unrealistic expectations and forgive myself when I fail.
No doubt you carry pressures too, so I write this to encourage you and myself. I guess what I’m trying to say here is, we’ve got this. We CAN have it all, the healthy family, the thriving marriage, the successful business, the job promotion…all with balanced boundaries.
So! Consider this your first juggling lesson.
